BALWEST METHODIST CHURCH: Scholars past and present gathered on Sunday for the Sunday school anniversary reunion. Old and young took part in a programme which spanned the years from the days of “star cards and the golden text” to remember favourite songs and poems and a debut performance on the drums. This was followed by a tea in the schoolroom with a birthday cake made by three generations of a family, all Sunday school scholars in their time. The offertory started the fund for the exterior work to the schoolroom.

ASHTON CHURCH: the celebrant at the monthly Book of Common Prayer service of holy communion on Friday was the parish priest, the Rev Penny Prince. The epistle was read by Bevan Osborne. Vicar Penny read the gospel. Sidesman was Bevan Osborne.

On Sunday there will be evensong at 6pm. On Ascension Day, May 17, there will be a service of holy communion at 7pm.
