BALWEST METHODIST CHURCH: Harvest thanksgiving celebrations concluded on Monday of last week with eight teams competing in the quiz evening. Quiz master was Dennis Oram and eventual winners were the Bal Maidens.

The Margaret Nicholls Memorial Cup was presented by Gillian Allen to the captain of the victorious team, Wendy Keverne. After a break for light refreshments the auction of harvest produce took place, the auctioneers being Alan Nicholls and Jeremy Boston.

On Sunday the congregation were “brought back to basics” when Ken Mills from Mullion led a service based on John the Baptist. Accompanist was Christine Cumber.

On Sunday there will be a special service for One World Week, on Monday the Churches around Tregonning Group will be serving soup in the schoolroom. The Traidcraft stall will be available on Sunday and Monday.

ASHTON CHURCH: Evensong on Sunday was taken by the parish licensed reader, Des Chapman, who preached and the parish curate, the Rev Sharon Chalcraft. Lessons were read by Malcolm Hersee and Bevan Osborne. Malcolm was sidesman and organist was Margaret Goldsworthy.

On Thursday, the Feast of St Luke, there will be a service of holy communion at 9.30am.

DOG SHOW: A fun dog show will be held on Sunday in aid of Cornwall Badger Rescue. The show will take place at The Coach and Horses on the A394 at Kenneggy. There will be 22 classes with rosettes for Best in Show, Reserve Best in Show and first to fourth in each class. Judging will start at noon. For further details ring 01736 759239.

LION & LAMB: There will be a quiz evening on Sunday with a 7.30pm start. Entry £1 per person. There will be a raffle and all proceeds will be shared between St Julia’s Hospice and the Ashton Village Christmas Lights.
