Adrian Rodda, Droll Teller, told tales about Lutey of Cury and thoughts on the thimble found above Dollar Cove amongst other,s all written by him.

Priscilla Oates, who organised the evening, thanked the musicians and explained that most of them meet regularly when on archaeological digs. Priscilla also explained that although the bells have now been re-hung there is still some pointing to be done on three sides of the tower but because of the wet summer the steeplejacks have not been able to get up to do this. She also thanked all those involved serving teas, pasties etc during the break.

SERPENTINE GROUP: Read All about it - history of the newspapers by Ian Wilshire was the very interesting talk given to members when they met last week at Helston. Mrs J Blunn, president of Helston introduced Ian and his son, Sam. Whilst Ian did the talking Sam showed members some interesting events that have taken place over the years such as the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria, which were compared to the recent events held by Queen Elizabeth II, the 1948 Olympics, the deaths of Queen Victoria and George VI and of course the Queen’s Coronation in 1953. On a more local topic was the disaster of the Torrey Canyon in 1962 - all these were shown from the massive tomes of newspapers Ian and Sam had brought along. Ian owns Papers Past in Truro and got interested when he was quite young, but trained as an accountant before he put his hobby into a business.
