VILLAGE HALL: St Keverne Male Voice Choir gave a wonderful evening’s entertainment on Saturday.

Under the direction of Musical Director, Paul Triggs, the choir sang a varied programme of songs ranging from the Cornish favourite The White Rose to songs of Perry Como, An American Trilogy made popular by Elvis Presley and numerous songs from musicals, they finished with I Believe from the television programme Last Choir Standing.

Soloists from the Choir were Paul Brown singing Stand By Me and making his debut Peter Pengilly with Linden Lee.

Guest Soloist was Christine Cumber who sang four numbers, Hey Ho Come to the Fair, How are Things in Guatemala, Send in the Clowns and Little Buttercups song from HMS Pinafore.

Paul Triggs who trained as a opera singer sang an aria from Georges Bizet French Opera, The Pearl Fishers – Je Cois Entendre Encore.

Accompanist for all the songs was David Turton.

Next year the choir will be celebrating their 70th Anniversary, Paul explained that many MVCs were formed just after WW2 and some were formed after WW1 by miners.

Ron Smith, chairman, thanked everyone and especially the ladies for providing food and selling raffle tickets.

Priscilla Oates, chairman of the Bell Project at Cury Church, thanked the choir and explained that although a lot of money was raised and spent last year on the bell supports we now have to start on the re-pointing of the tower, due to erosion. The proceeds for the evening were shared between the Choir and the Bell/Tower Project and the project received a donation of £250.

On Thursday its eyes down at 7.30pm for cash prize bingo.

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE: The next meeting will be on Thursday, October 3 at 7.15pm. The speaker will be David Chapman from Cornwall Wildlife Trust on Birds of Cornwall. The next coffee morning at the village hall is on Thursday from 9am to 11am.

METHODIST CHURCH: Franklin Moyle was the preacher on Sunday morning taking as his theme “Harvest”. The offering was collected by Christopher Trounson and accompanist was Sybil Benney. Flowers were provided by Anne Gendall.

On Sunday at 11am the appointed preacher is the Rev Steve Swann.
