Members achieved a real coup by getting Helston School Jazz Orchestra to play at their annual concert.

Mullion Methodist Chapel was full of appreciative fans to hear a wonderful evening's entertainment. Under the baton of musical director Clive King the orchestra played lively numbers such as St Louis Blues, and I get a kick out of you, and slower pieces, such as the difficult Little Darling. Instrumental and vocal soloists included Sean Sjoholm, Jack Reynolds, Isabel King, Alice Allen, and Shannon Farmer. Kathryn Butcher and Sarah Ferris brought Somewhere over the Rainbow to life with a saxophone and trumpet duet.

Clive described how the orchestra had played at the Royal Albert Hall to great acclaim, and now had sponsorship from Ocean BMW in Falmouth who had provided uniforms and equipment for the orchestra.

President, Dr Geoff Wood, thanked the orchestra for such an enjoyable evening and supper was served in the schoolroom. After expenses £165 was raised towards the staging of Mullion Horticultural Show on July 9. The next event will be the Garden Safari on June 29.
