METHODIST CHURCH: Brenda Richards from Porthleven led the family service on Sunday morning. Brenda had baked some small cakes and got the children decorating them, they were later enjoyed with a cup of coffee. The children also made a posy for everyone from wild flowers.

The offertory was collected by Christopher Trounson and the flowers given by Belinda Bell.

On Sunday at 11am the appointed preacher is Denis Bassett.

The chapel will be holding their annual cream teas for St Julia’s Hospice on Thursday, July 10 from 2pm–5pm.

ST CORENTIN’S CHURCH: Father John Palmer took the eucharist service on Ascension Day on Thursday. The readings for the service were full of references to horns and trumpets, so a visitor from Brittany, Francoise Fablet, played the Bombarde and although made the congregation jump when she started, it was most appreciated.

VILLAGE HALL: A very enjoyable evening of Folk Music was performed on Thursday when Francoise Fablet from Le Guilvenec in Brittany came to stay with her friend in Cury, Marian Jennings. Francoise brought along her Bombarde an ancestor of the Oboe and her Biniou, Breton Bagpipes, which she played with great enthusiasm.

Others who took part during the evening were Mary and Tony, Lesley and Zoe Skewes, Sandy Easterbrook and Gerry Gunn, all either played instruments or sang. Everyone joined in with some of the more familiar Cornish songs, such as Hail to the Homeland and Lamorna.

The Flora Dance was danced around the hall and Francoise got us all to join in the Breton Dance. The evening concluded with the Cornish Anthem, Trelawney.

Priscilla Oates introduced everyone and thanked all concerned for coming along at such short notice.

The proceeds from the evening will go towards the church tower fund. The next event for the tower fund will be cream teas with a raffle and stalls on Sunday, June 15 from 2–5pm at Brenfrey, Cury Churchtown.
