WOMEN’S INSTITUTE: On a beautiful, balmy summer evening with just the hint of a breeze we made our way into the village hall. Inside could be heard the hustle and bustle of ladies putting out chairs and a cacophony of voices relaying holiday experiences. Yes, you guessed it, welcome to Cury WI.

The preliminaries, first on the agenda came with promises of events to come. The president’s picnic in August, the trip to Wadebridge in October (open to all) and even bookings for the Christmas 'do' in November.

Wandering in from the car park with 'heads' (practice specimens) under her arm was our monthly speaker, Christine Britton, showing us Five Decades of Hairdressing. From as far back as the ancient Egyptians to the present day ladies have always taken great pride with their hair. She took lots of enthusiastic questions afterwards. The photos of fashionable hairstyles competition brought some unbelievable goodies out of drawers and cupboards. Some, not seen in years brought much amusement.

Beautiful 'Flowers of the Month' ladies. Your standard is always high.

We can see the calories as we gaze upon the scrumptious food you ladies provide for us. Excitement and laughter always follows in our members time. Guessing celebrities names from descriptions was no exception - always a looked forward to moment.

Come and join our merry band we meet on the first Thursday of every month at 7.15pm at Cury village hall.

Next month’s meeting should be good we have Old Thyme Music Hall Sing along. We look forward to seeing you all. On Thursday 9am-11am it's the turn of Cury WI members for the coffee morning at the village hall.

METHODIST CHURCH: Shirley Wearne led the family service on Sunday morning, taking as her theme the difference a smile can make. The children decorated biscuits with smiley faces, which were shared with everyone to enjoy with their coffee. The offering was collected by Edward Boaden and Adah Bosustow and accompanist was Esther Bosustow. On Sunday our appointed preacher is Christine Bridgewater. On Thursday from 2pm-5pm we are holding our Cornish cream teas for St Julia's Hospice. Various stalls and games. Do come along and support this very worthwhile cause.

ST CORENTYN'S CHURCH: On Sunday the congregation celebrated Trinity 3, Fourth Sunday after Pentecost with Father Shane Griffiths. On Wednesday, August 6 books and bric-a-brac on the beach at St Winwalloe Gate (Gunwalloe Church). Offers of help for the day to Priscilla as soon as possible please.

HERITAGE OPEN DAYS SEPTEMBER 11-14: In addition to our usual artists and their work, we would like to collect stories, photographs etc this year of those of Cury Parish who served in the two World Wars and survived. These will be added to our Book of Remembrance. See Priscilla if you can help with this.
