OLD CORNWALL SOCIETY: Members have had a busy time recently visiting Padstow and Prideaux Place in May; June we were off to Bude and Poundstock where again we had beautiful weather. After visiting the church at Bude and enjoying lunch sitting in the sunshine we were off to Poundstock and their church dedicated to St Winwaloe and the Guild house built between the 15th and 16th centuries. A considerable amount of restoration has been carried out on this thanks to Heritage Lottery funding and Awards for All. The guide told us that these days it is used for educational trips, such as Tudor Days when children and adults can dress up in some of the beautiful costumes they have there, wedding receptions etc.

On Saturday, July 7 14 members visited St Agnes for the Federation of Old Cornwall Societies Summer Festival. After the obligatory registration on arrival we were treated to a wonderful display of banners being paraded from all around Cornwall, as well as Torbay and London. The London Cornish Banner being carried by our president, Priscilla Oates and the Mullion banner being carried by Rosemary Stone. A warm welcome was given to us by the Federation president, Duncan Matthews as well as St Agnes Parish Council chairman, Trevor Coldman and the Grand Bard Maureen Fuller, who spoke on the Cornish being given Minority Status.

Entertainment was given by The Aggie Boys with their singing and poems after which everyone enjoyed a delicious pasty lunch before departing on various tours to Trevaunance Valley and Harbour, Teagles Machinery Factory, Blue Hills, The Museum and a coach trip around the parish which took in the airfield at Perranporth and surrounding countryside.

On arrival back from the tours members were welcomed with a cup of tea and a saffron bun before settling down to listen to Clive Ellison on organ playing a short recital and Cornish Songs which everyone enjoyed singing along to and finishing the day by standing for the Cornish Anthem of Trelawney.

On Saturday the weather finally broke for our trip to the Villages of Bodmin Moor, but that did not dampen our enthusiasm, we visited Jamaica Inn for morning coffee before going on to St Breward down some very narrow and winding lanes, again we were warmly welcomed by members of the Institute who had put on an exhibition to commemorate the centenary of the Great War and to reflect how it touched the lives of the moorland communities. After yet more coffee and cake we were off across the moors to Blisland where the lovely village green was getting ready for a fete which was eventually forced to go in to the village hall. The church here is dedicated to St Protus and St Hyacinth and mainly 12th century with an impressive barrel roof.

Eventually it was time to end our trip with a delicious lunch at the local hostelry, everyone being quite tired but having thoroughly enjoyed our trip, thanks to Priscilla and Shirley for organising it.

On Saturday, August 9 we are off on another pilgrimage to Restormel Castle and the stannary town of Lostwithiel, in September the Cornish Gorsedd is being held at Torpoint and Anton.

ST CORENTYN'S CHURCH: On Wednesday, August 6 there will be a books and brick-a-brac stall on the beach at St Winwalloe Gate (Gunwalloe Church). Offers of help to Priscilla please on 01326240887.

HERITAGE OPEN DAYS: September 11-14 - In addition to our usual artists and their work, we would like to collect stories, photographs etc this year of those of this parish who served in the two World Wars and survived. These will be added to our Book of Remembrance. Again contact Priscilla if you can help with this.
