The July meeting was held at the Waves Café, Coverack, where members enjoyed an excellent cream tea.
WI business was limited to important announcements. President, Val Stevens, then paid tribute to longstanding member, Peggy Lewis, who will be leaving Mullion shortly to live near her family.
Peggy has served several terms as either secretary or president between the years 1992 to 2007. She has helped with, and joined in, every aspect of Mullion WI life. She helps to deliver WI lunches every month to those unable to get to the hall, and readily offers to drive people to and from events when needed.
Val presented Peggy with a gift token to be spent on a keepsake of her own choice, as a memento of her life in Mullion. Peggy is currently chairman of the Mullion branch of Arthritis Research Campaign. She will be greatly missed by her many friends.
Competition for a decorative fan: 1, Val Stevens; 2, Yvonne Upton; 3, Catherine Barnes. Rita Eaton won a raffle prize of a pair of hand-made French-knickers, which had been part of a group entry in the Royal Cornwall Show! The proceeds from the raffle and other funds raised by the handicraft group are to help towards the cost of professional preparation of a wall hanging, incorporating items made by the handicraft group depicting buildings and places in the village.
The pennants produced by Cornwall WIs for the RCS were widely admired and have been retained by county. Members wondered whether the new pennants could replace the local banners at group meetings.
Coming events: Wednesday, July 25, provision of afternoon tea for Camborne & Redruth Senior Citizens; Thursday, July 26, Village Restaurant, luncheon club; Tuesday, July 31, monthly WI lunch; Wednesday, August 1, handicrafts open day.
Next meeting, with speaker, Peter C K Smith on Classical Homeopathy, is on Friday, September 14.
Rambling Club has been rescheduled for Thursday, September 20 at Roskillys, (previous ramble was cancelled because of bad weather). Unless otherwise specified, all events will be held in the WI Hall as usual.
