WOMEN’S INSTITUTE: President, Jenny Smith, introduced Philip Rodda to members at the monthly meeting last week. From coal yard to creamery, Philip explained how the farm where his great grandparents started their business of making cream used to be a coal yard before they brought it and built the farm and its buildings.

Over 100 years ago they decided to make cream with the milk from their cows and as the business grew so the buildings had to be modernised, hence the beautiful new buildings we see today as we pass by at Scorrier. All the latest technology is now employed to make the famous Rodda’s Cornish Clotted Cream which is sold all over the world, butter, milk and numerous other scrumptious products are also made there. Mr Rodda very generously brought along some delicious Rodda’s products for members to take home, delicious as they are, they are no good for our waistline, but who cares?

Mr Rodda and Philip Greet, who manned the DVD screen, were thanked by Frances Johns.

The competition a limerick to contain the word Rodda: 1, Marian Jennings; 2, Liz Granville; 3, Brenda Lawrance. Mr Rodda judged these and asked if he could take them all home with him. Flower of the Month: 1, Jenny Andersen, Joint 2, Marian Jennings/Sue Garner; Joint 3, Jenny Smith/Brenda Lawrance.

After refreshments Jenny Smith organised a game for members to play that she was taught by her grandparents and much hilarity was enjoyed by everyone.

The menu for the Christmas dinner which is being held at Mullion Golf Club in December was passed around for members to peruse. Next Month our speaker on November 1 will be Jill Keeble, Icing Christmas Cakes.

New members are always welcome to come along to any meeting.
