Harvest of the Sea weekend, which this year focussed on the work of the Royal National Mission to Deep Sea Fishermen, began on Friday evening with a talk by Ian Murray, the Voluntary Welfare Officer for the Mission in Looe and Polperro. The talk was followed by a supper in the decorated chapel.

Saturday morning saw the traditional “Harvest of the Sea” Coffee Morning, the proceeds of which were donated to the Mission.

Sunday morning service was led by various members of the congregation, and included special singing by the Men’s Choir under their conductor, the Rev David Pountain. The speaker was Gina Moore from the local branch of the Mission. Also taking part were David Balme, Palfrey Turner and the Rev Graham Kitts.

Evening worship was led by the Minister, the Rev Beverly Turner, and again included special singing by the Men’s Choir. This was a Circuit Service, and the large congregation included representatives of many of the Circuit Chapels. The speaker was Julian Waring, manager of the Mission building in Newlyn. Also taking part were Mildred Pyne (Porthleven representative of the mission) and Elsie Balme, each of whom read one of the lessons. David Philp was the organist at both services, and the cash collection at the evening service was donated to the Mission.

On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of this week the church is running a half-term Holiday Club entitled “Seaside Rock” for local children. There will be a variety of craft and other activities. Each session will run from 10am–noon.

The Alpha Course continues on Thursday with a meal at 6.30pm, followed by a DVD and discussion groups.
