On Friday at 7.30pm members held their latest meeting. On a cold, rainy evening, the topic for the talk was ‘The Weather’ by John Notley.

This was an open meeting attended by a large number of members, friends and relations, and the audience was treated to a very interesting talk by Mr Notley, about himself, his time in the Navy, and his career in weather forecasting. He used a power point presentation to show what affects our weather and the different methods used for forecasting the weather. He explained that in order to give us our forecast on Radio Cornwall at 6am he has to be in Truro considerably earlier in order to work out the charts for himself. The forecast given by the Met Office is for the Scilly Isles to Gloucester, so he has to take a more generalised chart and refine it for the Cornwall area.

Dorothy Pountain introduced and thanked Mr Notley and refreshments were served by Judi Mitchell, Olive Polglase and Jean Rashleigh.

The next meeting on April 4 at 7.30pm will be the AGM. It will be held at the Porthleven Methodist Church, and members are asked to give feedback to the committee members on the talks held this session, and to make suggestions regarding any speakers or topics that may be of interest to them for the new schedule beginning in October. There will also be light refreshments served and members old and new would be most welcome.

On Friday, April 11 members will have their outside visit to Roskillys. The coach is fully booked but it may be possible to arrange an additional car if further members wish to participate.

This will be the last meeting for this session. The new season, starting in October, will be advertised when the programme is formalised.
