President for the day on Sunday was Des Moore who welcomed visitors from Malvern, Solihull and Broadstone.

In the afternoon former fisherman Michael Hosking spoke about the changing state of the sea and used the example of Jesus calming the storm in Matthew chapter 8. The skipper needs to be alert at all times at sea but Jesus was asleep in the boat and their faith was tested as he calmed the storm. In the story of Jesus walking to the boat on the water Peter needed faith and belief as we do, knowing that Jesus is never far away. Michael's experience of many fishing boats anchored against the storm in Sennen bay shows how a firm anchorage withstands the gale. We need that great hope that is so secure that it is like an anchor to the soul through Jesus who we remember in the communion service.

After sharing tea Bob Muxlow pointed out that everyone has the choice to listen to the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ or not. Bob looked at the writings of the richest man ever in Ecclesiastes 2 where Solomon mused on the meaning of life. Solomon asked God for wisdom but was also given riches and long life. But man brings nothing into the world and can take nothing out. Bob used the reading in Luke 12 of the rich fool and what Jesus had to say about it including the well-known saying of ‘eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow you may die.’ It is only while we are alive that we can hope and have trust in God who made the most amazing offer of life through belief in Jesus.
