The July meeting was a fun evening. The speaker was Madhu Greet owner of a lovely gallery and worship in our village called Tesserae.

She started by giving a small talk on the origin of mosaic, tesserae means small pieces of stone, glass or other materials, which can all been used in the ancient art of making mosaic which go back as far as 200BC. We had the choice of two shapes, a heart or a bird on which we could design our work, together with a great variety of tesserae of all different colours and shapes. Once done, the pieces were set in grouting and we could take our works of art home with us.

President Maureen Williams conducted the business of the evening. The strawberry and champagne evening was a great success despite the bad weather and raised £166. The quiz held at the Harbour Inn raised £131 and the sum of £20 was donated to the Air Ambulance.

A cake stall will be held on August 12 from noon onwards on the Harbour Inn patio.

September 24 is our birthday lunch at Trevena Cross garden centre.

Advance notice for trip to Padstow Christmas market on December 5.

The winner of the flower of the month competition was Mrs C Cottington.
