President for the day on Sunday was Bob Muxlow who welcomed visitors from Birmingham.

The speaker on Sunday afternoon was Peter Kitchen and after telling an amusing story about towing a car he asked why we try to take over when God is in control. In the daily reading from Jeremiah it was sometimes hard going but God knew the plan he had for the people then and still has plans for us today. The greatest need everyone has is for salvation and God has plans for that too.

When life seems difficult we should submit to God’s control and look to the example and support of Jesus who we remember in the communion service as he paid the ultimate price for our salvation. In the example of the potter’s wheel in Jeremiah we can remember that God’s hands are firmly around us and He is aware of all our faults which can be reworked like the potter with the clay and we need to submit to His will as He moulds us in the hope of that great reward when Jesus returns.

After sharing tea Brian Jones talked about being a Christian in the modern world. He reminded us of the history of the troubles in the Middle East and how difficult it is to be a Christian in the face of all that strife. Brian quoted the words of Peter reminding us that God has given us all we need but especially his great and precious promises and the hope believers have in that salvation through Jesus. Faith is our bedrock and we can build on that and add many worthwhile characteristics. Jesus warned His followers of difficulties and set an example by putting aside everything that would affect His service to God and we should strive to do the same.
