On Sunday the speaker was the well-known speaker, John Parry. He is an accountant who is a Trustee of the nationwide Christadelphian care homes and has preached in France, Russia, Ukraine, Germany and USA.

The president for the day was Des Moore who welcomed visitors from Seaton, Leamington, Bristol, Solihull, Weston-super-mare and Malvern.

In the afternoon John reminded us that we had all chosen to be there because we want to remember Jesus. We are privileged to be able to read the words of Jesus in the daily reading from Luke chapter 6. The religious leaders of his day had been instructed to worship on the Sabbath to remember their creator, their salvation from slavery in Egypt and the covenant they had made with God, but their praise and remembrance was forgotten in their attempt to find grounds for accusing Jesus. We meet to remember, praise and build one another up and Jesus has promised He will be among us.

His sermon in Luke chapter 6 repeats the profound lesson of love and care which are not theory but practice; not study but application. Jesus carried out all those actions and we look to His example.

After sharing tea John gave an interesting talk on the prophet Isaiah’s view of salvation. The king of the time needed salvation from the Assyrians and his illness but above all the people needed salvation from the corruption in the nation. Both then and now there is an option for salvation: admitting you need to be saved, repentance and change. Salvation is freely available to all with the promise of life in the kingdom when Jesus returns.
