Evocative decorations throughout the building, robust singing by the men’s choir and inspirational preaching by visiting preacher William Thomas from St Ives, all combined to make this year’s Harvest of the Sea services a resounding success and a thoroughly moving occasion.

William, who has for many years been one of a select band of preachers leading Harvest of the Sea services in Porthleven, was accompanied by his wife in duets, both morning and evening.

The theme for morning worship was Storms based on the Bible story of Jesus sleeping in the stern of the disciples’ boat during a storm. Shipwreck, using the story of St Paul’s ill-fated journey in the Acts of the Apostles, was the focus of the address at evening worship, which was attended by friends from neighbouring churches as well as the regular congregation.

Godfrey Richards was the organist throughout the day.

Tea and coffee were served after the evening service.
