The service for the first Sunday in Advent was conducted by the Rev Geoffrey Thorpe who was assisted in holy communion by the Rev Harry Chant.
Mr Thorpe began by reading the Street Bible version of Zachariah regaining his speech, Luke chapter 1 v 57-66. Jenny Wingham then read Matthew chapter 24 v 1-8 and 36-44 on which Mr Thorpe based his thought provoking sermon entitled "Keeping clear heads and attentive minds". The message was that the first "Coming" was the resurrection of Jesus, confirmed by Pentecost, with that outpouring of the Holy Spirit continuing around the world today and so it is important for Christians to keep faithful to God.
The first Advent candle was lit by Maureen and Paul Hayward, keyboards were played by Margaret Eva and the projector was controlled by Paul Triggs.
