Twenty-two members attended the February meeting, were welcomed by president Kathleen Kenny and quickly got underway with the business part of the evening.

Dates for forthcoming events were discussed and we took a vote on which charity we would support this year. Penhaligan's Friends, changing bereaved children's lives was chosen and a coffee morning to raise funds for the charity will be on March 15 in the Methodist Hall.

Ideas were put forward for next year’s diary and Kathleen asked for any names to be put forward for next year’s committee. Our ladies who lunch will be going to the Paris on Saturday.

Our speaker for the evening was Pam Berry, a very entertaining lady who gave a talk entitled 'Upstairs, Downstairs part 1'. Pam gave an insight into the world of the aristocracy through her job as a cook and housekeeper. How she applied for the job with no experience and what was expected of her and it is still very much like Downton Abbey, even in this day and age. Know your place seems to be the order of the day and although Pam still works in service she said she had the most fun in a formal household. We were also given some good tips from Pam on cleaning!

After the talk we had a cup of tea provided by Pam and Marcia and our competition a Pretty Cup and Saucer: 1, Marcia Williams; 2, Anne Nicholson; 3, Tricia Retallack. Flower of the month: 1, Dorothy Kemp; 2, Marcia Williams; 3, Kathleen Dewar.

Next month’s meeting will be on March 20 and is our AGM in the Methodist Hall, St Keverne where new members are always welcome. The competition is three cup cakes For more information contact Rita Kelly on 01326 280498.
