METHODIST CHURCH: Early communion service for Pentecost was conducted by the Rev Beverly Turner who spoke about spring being a time of new life.
The gift of the Holy Spirit gave the disciples a new life at Pentecost. We have a personal Pentecost and receive the Holy Spirit when we become Christians. Sunday morning worship was led by Nikki Hale with Adrian Hendy as the preacher. The call to worship came from Psalm 117. Chris and Sue Smith read from Numbers chapter 11 and Acts chapter 2.
Adrian spoke about the power of the Holy Spirit which is available for everyone and is not restricted by rituals. Jesus commissioned His disciples and the Spirit strengthened them. Jesus needs the church to spread His message and the church needs Jesus, as without Him there is no message.
Prayers of intercession were led by Maureen Hayward. David Wingham was at the piano and Paul Triggs operated the computer and projector.
HORTICULTURAL SHOW: Schedules are now available for the show, which takes place on Saturday, August 2 and will be opened by Councillor Loveday Jenkin. There will be the usual classes, including a Floral Art class depicting World War I and a Children’s class entitled “Something I Grew” to encourage gardeners of the future.
On Sunday, August 3 there will be a Pet Service in the Tent and on Monday, August 4 the chapel will be open for prayer, remembering the commencement of World War 1, one hundred years ago.
