The celebrant and preacher at the morning service of holy communion on Sunday was a first for our curate, the Rev Jane Bradbury, who was ordained the previous weekend in Truro Cathedral as a priest.

Incorporated in the service was a service commemorating baptism and this was the theme for the whole service. It was lovely to have people with us who had been baptised in our beautiful church. The young ones really enjoyed mixing and playing together with the contents of the toy box. One or two mums were kept busy chasing the little ones when they decided to have a wander and find out what was where in the building.

To remind the congregation of the light of the world being symbolised by the gift of a lit candle at their baptism, all were given a candle, which was let by Philip Warren and Ray Spencer and accepted by the Rev Jane and placed on the altar in the Lady Chapel.

The epistle was read by Philip Warren, the Rev Jane read the gospel. Bevan Osborne led the intercession, communion elements were presented by Mary Cowley and Janet Parker, Philip Haywood and Isabel Osborne were sidespeople, organist was Chris Bradbury and Max Barnett rang the Sanctus bell.

Thank you to Philip Warren for producing the order of service and the leaflets.

Coffee was served after the service by Sue Spencer and friends. On Friday the funeral service of Norman Sheffield, the first manager of the mega-selling rock band, Queen, took place in the church. The service was taken by Canon David Miller.

On Saturday Martin Shrigley and Kelly Roberts were married, the Rev Jane and Canon David officiating.

Evening prayer takes place Monday to Thursday at 5pm.

On Sunday the officiant for the service of morning prayer at 10.30am will be the Rev Jane Bradbury.
