The much-loved, atmospheric event, of which the Packet newspaper is the official media partner, will take place on Saturday, September 21st 2013 and will see hundreds of ladies from Falmouth, Penryn and Helston, joining together to celebrate precious memories with every step, whilst raising awareness and support for their local children’s hospice, Little Harbour.

With the help of its supporters from Falmouth and across Cornwall the event has raised a phenomenal £180,000 since it first came to town in 2009 and offers a true “lady’s night out” with a real sense of camaraderie and female-fun.

It costs in the region of £2 million per year in running costs alone to keep Little Harbour open and events like this are a huge step toward managing this.

Sherry Parson, and her partner Daniel, from St Just, use Little Harbour in St Austell, with their daughter Nicole Sands, nine, who has Aicardi Syndrome; a condition which means part of her brain is missing and has left her with profound disabilities.

The facilities also accommodate Nicole’s siblings: Ashley (16), Toni 11, Mark, eight, and Harvey, four.

Sherry has been taking part in the event since 2010 and can’t wait to sign up again this year, saying: “I’ve taken part in the Moonlight Memory Walk in Falmouth for the last three years, and my 16-year-old daughter Ashley did it with me for the first time last year.

“It’s an amazing, amazing event and I would encourage everyone to be a part of it. You can’t describe the atmosphere, how you’re going to feel until you’ve been there. I’m no fitness fanatic but five miles is very achievable and the stewards along the way are so friendly.

“I’ve got my Moonlight Memory Walk medals up on my wall as I did it for Nicole. Everyone there is there for a reason, whether for a child, mum, or brother, or to support someone else. The walk shows you other people who have lost a precious thing, but they’re still there walking, moving, laughing, living.

You have to do it to soak up the atmosphere, and if you do it once you’ll want to do it again – I had to go back.”

Creating and celebrating special memories for families and children with life-limiting conditions is a big part of what CHSW do at Little Harbour and their other two hospices in the South West.

Offering a “home from home” environment safe in the knowledge that highly-qualified, palliative care professionals are on hand, allows peace of mind and respite opportunities for the whole family, often for many years.

The money raised at the Moonlight Memory Walk Events, contributes to keeping these vital services going.

Sarah Stott, Children’s Hospice South West Events Coordinator (West), says: “We are really excited about this year's Moonlight Memory Walk as we're preparing to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the walk in Falmouth.

“It's going to be an extra special evening and we would like to invite women who have taken part before to join us again for this girl's night out with a difference.

“And of course, ladies who haven't experienced what a special event it is, are invited to celebrate their precious memories with us and have fun with us too.”

So whether you’ve taken part before or are completely new to the Moonlight Memory Walk, why don’t you and your friends come and enjoy a really unique girls night out. Register online at www.chsw.org.uk/moonlight or thepacket.co.uk
