A group of ladies from Falmouth’s Pendennis Shipyard Ltd will be joining hundreds of other women next month for a special fundraising evening.

The women will be stepping out together on Saturday, September 18 for the Moonlight Memory Walk around Falmouth in aid of Children’s Hospice South West’s Precious Lives Appeal.

The shipyard chooses a charity each year that staff then hold events for throughout those 12 months.

Two years ago the Precious Lives Appeal was chosen and as part of this Diana Dawson, who works in the purchasing department and heads up the company’s charity committee, went to visit Little Bridge House, the hospice in Barnstaple.

She said she was left “overwhelmed” by the dedication and support that was given to the children and families.

“The ladies of Pendennis decided that the Moonlight Memory Walk was another excellent way to raise money so decided to take part this year as a team,” she said.

The Moonlight Memory Walk is a girl’s night out with a difference and will see the shipyard employees join hundreds of other women for a five-mile sponsored walk around Falmouth’s town centre and seafront to celebrate memories of loved ones and help raise funds to build a children’s hospice at St Austell.

It was held for the first time last year and proved so successful that it has made a return.

Also back for a second year is the candle lit ceremony on The Moor that marks the start of the night.

The event is open to all women over the age of 16, provided parental consent is given for 16 to 18 year olds. Men are also encouraged to get involved by marshalling or taking on another volunteer role on the night.
