A special Saturday night in Falmouth saw four hundred ladies joining together for Children’s Hospice South West’s (CHSW) fourth annual Moonlight Memory Walk and raising an estimated £30,000.

From individuals, to groups of friends and family, to teams of colleagues or clubs, the women came from around Cornwall to enjoy a girls’ night out with a difference and support the vital work of their local children’s hospice. They all brought pledge cards with them as to how much they hoped to raise for the sponsored five mile Moonlight Memory Walk and this soon added up to thousands of pounds.

Emma Lloyd, CHSW’s Head of Fundraising at Little Harbour, recalls the evening: “The excitement started building from 8pm as the women began arriving on The Moor where they were expertly entertained by Pirate FM’s James Dundon. “The square soon became an ocean of colour as many of the ladies accessorised their purple event t-shirts with tutus, wigs, feather bowers, fairy wings and all manner of bright fancy-dress.

“We had a moment’s reflection at our special ceremony, with the beautifully decorated candle bags full of personal memories as the back-drop. “After shedding a few tears and collecting our thoughts our spirits were lifted again as we geared up for the walk with a warm-up. “The ladies set off at 10pm to much applause, cheering and giggles – an electric atmosphere that carried them the whole way round.

“We were delighted to welcome them back onto The Moor from 11:30pm, armed with hot pasties, goody bags, and the news they had helped raise an amazing £30,000 to support local families with children who aren’t expected to reach adulthood. “On behalf of all these families, I would like to say a huge thank you to all the Moonlight Memory Walkers and our marvellous volunteers for making this a truly memorable evening in so many ways.”
