The Junior Youth Speaks Truro area competition, organised by the Rotary Club of Truro Boscawen, saw the team from Devoran School take the top honour.

The young pupils' "entertaining and topical presentation", was on the question, have you ever heard of a "onesie"? These are similar to giant baby grows for adults that have become a comfortable favourite in recent years.

A close second was Kea Community Primary School’s talk on should children wear uniform in school.

Teams from Truro School Prep (‘Take the Pet Eligibility Test!’), Mithian School, (‘Will paper books survive the e-reader?’), Polwhele House Preparatory School (‘The origins of Modern Music’), and Truro High School for Girls (‘Olympic Ideas’ ) all gave a very good account of themselves.

A spokesman for the rotary club said the standard from all teams was exceptionally high, calling the pupils "a real credit to the hard work of the pupils and their teachers."
