Truro MP Matthew Taylor has become a father. His fiance Vicky Garner, a former director of Surfers Against Sewage, has given birth to a son, Arthur Simon Rowan Taylor.
Baby Arthur was born on Friday weighing in at 7lbs 7oz. The couple had planned a home birth - but Arthur had ideas of his own and was born at St Thomas' Hospital across the river from the House of Commons, after an emergency admission. However, the natural birth went well, and he is thriving after a short stay at the hospital.
Tired but very happy, Vicky said: "Arthur is a gorgeous contented little boy. He takes after his Dad already - not surprising since the view out of the hospital window was the House of Commons! The midwives and hospital team were all wonderful, especially as it was a bit of a shock to find myself at hospital last week. Not quite the home birth we planned, but all is well and I could not be happier."
A delighted Matthew Taylor said: "Arthur is just as beautiful and perfect as we hoped. We are taking some time together now with the baby and our parents have come up from Cornwall to meet Arthur and lend a hand. What we really want is to get him home to Cornwall soon, once both of us have had some more sleep and the midwives are happy for Vicky and Arthur to make the trip."
