A new chapter looks set to open for a former Methodist chapel and Sunday school near Newquay as it goes under the hammer at auction.

The property is among 23 lots listed for sale by Clive Emson, the regional land and property auctioneers, next month (MAY).

Located in School Road, Summercourt, it has a freehold guide price of £90,000 to £110,000.

Planning consent has already been granted for a new three-bedroom house in place of the Sunday school at the rear of the site.

The former chapel - built in 1912 - at the front of the site has B1 permission for a private business.

Katie Semmens, Senior Auction Valuer, said: "There is no need to pray for a good outcome here as there is already consent granted.

"We are expecting a lot of interest from those looking for a home and adjoining business as well as the development community who might have a go at residentially converting the chapel too."

The chapel dates to 1912 – the year of Scott's ill-fated expedition to the South Pole and the sinking of the Titanic.

Starting at 11am, the third of Clive Emson’s eight regional auctions in 2014 takes place at the St Mellion International Resort, St Mellion, Cornwall, on Friday May 9.
