Cornish retailers are invited to attend a free crime prevention day to help reduce shoplifting on their premises.

The Retail Loss Prevention Day, hosted by Devon and Cornwall Police, will take place on Thursday 11 September 2014 at Kingsley Village, Fraddon from 9.30am-12.30pm.

Two national retailers – ASDA and Dunelm Mill – will be supporting the event and providing speakers, plus there will be crime prevention advice from police officers and SmartWater – supplier of crime prevention technology.

Nationally, there has been an increase in shoplifting incidents in the last year and this Retail Loss Prevention Day is part of a wider police prevention plan to address this increase. Sergeant Emma Fox, organiser of the day said: “Nationally we are aware of the increase in shoplifting and this has been seen locally in some areas of Cornwall. We want to provide retailers across Cornwall with information and practical advice which they can use to avoid being targeted.

“We are extremely pleased to have ASDA and Dunelm Mill supporting this day, we hope their experience and knowledge will help provide local businesses with practical information which they can put into place to help prevent retail loss. The event is free to all retailers and we would like to see as many retailers as possible attend.”
