This Sunday morning, hundreds of hardy souls will brave the hills surrounding Truro, and attempt to complete the city's half marathon.

Last year, some 463 runners finished the challenging, 13.1-mile course, which takes a lap of notable city centre sights before heading out into the countryside through Newham, Penelewey and Old Kea.

With the weather forecast looking promising, and runners pre-registered from as far afield as Manchester and Essex, organisers Truro Running Club are hoping for another good turnout, and have issued a message of thanks to local shoppers and motorists for their patience.

Race director Diane Boardman says: "Every year, the people of Truro are absolutely magnificent. Without their patience, co-operation and good humour we couldn't run such a safe, fun race - or have such a great atmosphere all around the course.

"Once again, we'd like to ask people to bear with the road closures, and the alterations to pedestrian routes in the city centre, too. We'll get you on your way as quickly as we can, and I know every runner is really grateful - even if they're a too puffed out to tell you so themselves!

"It takes a lot of training and dedication to run this event, and for some of the runners it might even be the most challenging race they ever do. So if you see people around the course, please do give them all the encouragement you can. It really does make a massive difference."

The race starts on Lemon Quay at 9.30am.

The following roads will be closed from 6.30am to 10.30am: • St Nicholas Street between the junctions of River Street and Boscawen Street • King Street for its entire length • High Cross for its entire length • Old Bridge Street between the junction of High Cross and the Car Park • St Marys Street for its entire length • New Bridge Street between the junctions of St Marys Street and Quay Street • Duke Street for its entire length • Boscawen Street for its entire length • Princes Street for its entire length • Quay Street between the junctions of Duke Street and Green Street • Green Street between the junctions of Quay Street and Back Quay • Back Quay for its entire length • Lemon Street between the junctions of Back Quay and Boscawen Street
