Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust will be hosting a mini health fair alongside its annual general meeting on Thursday, September 25, offering a range information, simple health checks and short talks.

Hosting ‘stalls’ at the health fair will be staff from clinical teams across RCHT’s hospitals including hepatology, who’ll be offering liver scans, and physiotherapy with lung function and fitness exercise step tests.

There will also be information on topics including blood transfusion, research, chaplaincy and pastoral care, learning disabilities, Friends and volunteers and the RCHT Charitable Fund.

Members of the team from Cornwall Food – RCHT’s in-house caterers - will also be cooking up a range of tasty treats from the menu served to patients at the Trust’s three hospitals for visitors to sample.

The health fair will run throughout the evening from 6.15 pm until 9 pm, with the annual general meeting and short talks taking place between 7 pm and 8.30 pm.

As well as a presentation on the performance of RCHT during the last financial year and plans for the future, the Trust’s Nurse Executive will be giving a short talk on ‘The future of healthcare and the journey to provide outstanding care for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.’

Consultant and director of cancer services, Dr Bryson Pottinger will speak about the way forward in cancer diagnosis, treatment and survival.

“We welcome the opportunity for public questions and discussion at the meeting,” said Lezli Boswell, chief executive, “so we want people to feel free to ask about their local NHS and the work of Royal Cornwall Hospitals.”

Members of the public are invited to come along to the health fair at any time and go to all or part of the AGM and talks, depending on their personal interest. With the added bonus of free parking for all visitors to the site between 6 and 9 pm, it will also be an opportunity for anyone visiting a relative or friend in hospital next Tuesday evening to drop-in to the health fair before or afterward.

Linking to the talk on cancer care, there will also be a chance to have a tour of the Sunrise Centre.

Those taking part will be able to see the state-of-the-art TrueBeam linear accelerator which has just been installed, offering world-class radiotherapy treatment to patients in Cornwall.
