Devon and Cornwall Police will be holding a memorial service to support the National Police Memorial Day at Truro Cathedral from 2-3pm.

The service will remember any member of the force who has died in the last year and over 100 people have been invited to attend including police offices and staff, volunteers and Cornish dignitaries.

Local opera singers Darren Jeffery and Shelley Coulter Smith together with Devon and Cornwall Police’s Pipes and Drums band will be performing at the service.

This is the first year the service has been organised by the force and it is anticipated it will become an annual service, with Devon and Plymouth hosting the event in future years.

Lead chaplain for the force, Sarah Jeffrey, said: “This is the first year we are holding this event in the area, and we hope it will be an excellent opportunity to come together to honour the people who have died away in the last year.

“The service will bring together all of our policing family from servicing and retired officers and staff, to police cadets and Specials, as well as organisations who work closely with us such as street pastors.

“We are extremely grateful to hold the event in Truro Cathedral, and we are sure the venue will add to the enjoyment of the service. We hope this will become an annual event for our Force.”

The event is open to anyone who has been employed by Devon and Cornwall Police or organisations associated with the police.

If you would like to attend please contact Lead Chaplin Sarah Jeffrey on 07720341614 or email: sarah.jeffrey@devonandcornwall.pnn.police.uk. A collection will take place on the day; any donations will be split between the Compassionate Widows and Orphans Fund and Truro Cathedral.
