A woman is in hospital with a serious head injury and two men are in police custody after a major police operation involving firearms officers this morning.

Two men have been arrested after police were called to a property in Looe at around 7am this morning by ambulance crews who were treating a woman suffering a head injury.

Initial reports are that she was shot in the head.

A spokesman said that officers are investigating reports the woman, aged in her fifties, was assaulted in Millendreath car park in Looe around 11pm the previous evening.

The woman was taken to Derriford Hospital with a "serious head injury" where she remains.

As a result of police enquiries a firearms operation was launched in Looe as officers searched for a suspect.

A police spokesman said; "Two men were arrested a short time ago, around 2.30pm near to St Martin’s church yard. One man was arrested for attempted murder while a second was arrested for assisting an offender and both have been taken into police custody.

"Firearms units, local officers, specialist search trained officers, plus the force helicopter were used in the search. Officers remain in the area carrying out further investigations."
