The Oratory of St Piran, the “Lost Church” will see the skies for the first time in more than three decades next weekend when it is completely uncovered.
The Oratory in the dunes above Perranporth beach has been buried in sand for more than 30 years in an attempt to protect it from the elements and the creeping sand.
On the weekend of November 22 and 23, the cover will be removed allowing the oratory to be completely visible for the first time in 30 years, and open to the sky without the forbidding cover.
Angela Penrose, Chair of St Piran Trust, said: “It will probably have to be protected with hessian and plastic sheeting for the rest of the winter before conservation work begins in the spring so next week will be a unique time to see it.”
