Firecrews were called to a property believed to be on fire near Portscatho after sparks were seen flying from the chimney.

Nine firefighters from St Mawes and five from Truro were sent to the property at Trewithian, which had a smoke alarm sounding and sparks coming out of the chimney, at around 5.45pm on Saturday.

A fire service spokesperson said: "Initially it was believed that the property was on fire, however on the arrival of fire crews it was confirmed that the fire was contained to the chimney.

"Crews extinguished the fire in the hearth before clearing the fire using a triple extension ladder and small tools.

"The premises was smoke logged and crews investigated in the property to check that the fire had not spread."
