A plan for homes at Higher Newham Farm near Truro is set to be considered by councillors on Cornwall’s Planning Committee on Thursday, December 18.

The plan for a new "community combining food, farming, education and living" will be tabled at a meeting of Cornwall Council’s Strategic Planning Committee on Thursday December 18, where it will be decided if the project will be granted outline planning permission.

The project combines 155 new build homes on a greenfield site with an educational community farm run by Duchy College, charity-run restaurant and cook school from Cornwall Food Foundation.

Following discussion and consultation with Cornwall Council’s Highways officers, the vehicular access point from the site onto Morlaix Avenue has been moved eastwards down the hill so that it is now approximately 100m from the Arch Hill junction.

The "affordable" housing provision will be 47 per cent, above the level required by Cornwall Council’s policy. Of these, 27 homes will be made available onsite at an intermediate rent, and an offsite contribution of over £1.5 million will be made to Cornwall Council to invest in a further 27 homes for rent in the Truro area.

In addition to the above, 19 homes will be made available onsite under a seven year "affordable" part-buy scheme.

Comments are still being accepted at Cornwall Council’s planning register. To comment on or support the plans, go to www.cornwall.gov.uk/planning and use reference number PA14/07792.
