Police have arrested two people in Sussex in connection with a chemical attack in Truro.

A 48-year-old man and a 16-year-old youth were arrrested early this morning in Sussex on suspicion of attempted murder.

They will be brought back to the force area today and formally interviewed.

Officers were called to a property in Carrine Road on Tuesday, December 9, following reports that a corrosive substance, believed to be acid, had been thrown in a man’s face.

The 29-year-old victim, named locally as Andreas Christopheros, was attacked in his own home by an unknown man at around 4pm.

Police, ambulance and fire service attended the scene. The man was taken to Treliske Hospital, Truro, with life-threatening facial injuries, where he remains in a critical but stable condition.

Detective Inspector Sharon Donald, from Truro CID, said: “Although this is a very distressing and serious crime, it is an isolated incident and residents should not be concerned for their own safety as a result.

"We are keen to speak to anyone who saw any unusual people or vehicles in the area yesterday, in particular a red van.

Officers have been carrying out house-to-house enquiries, handing out leaflets, and patrolling the area to reassure residents.
