An elderly man sustained serious injuries in a two-vehicle collision on the A30 near Zelah at the weekend.

Emergency services were called to the Boxeater junction on the A30 at 9.25am on Saturday, December 13, after the collision between a Rover 200 car and a Toyota Hiace van.

The driver of the Rover, a 77-year-old local man, sustained serious chest injuries and was taken to Treliske Hospital where he remains in a critical but stable condition.

The male driver of the van was uninjured.

Officers from the Serious Collisions Investigation Unit carried out an examination of the scene and a 500-metre section of the A30 was closed for six-and-a-half–hours.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision to come forward and to anyone who saw the vehicles, which were travelling in opposite directions, prior to the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Sergeant Ken George by telephoning police on 101, quoting log 265 of 13/12/14.
