Truro Judo Club is aiming to send a team to the Austrian Cup next month, and is asking for help to make it happen.

The club has launch a fundraising campaign on online crowdfunding platform PledgeSports.org to make the ambition a reality.

Run by former Slovakian National Champion Eva Minarikova, Truro Judo Club has achieved multiple medals in British competitions since opening four years ago and has grown its membership rapidly.

Minarikova now wants to send a team of judoka to Gmundem in Austria for their U23 championship, as well as growing her home operations to include running competitions.

She said: "We started with just seven registered members. Now we have 62, aged five to 47, from many different backgrounds, including those with autism and blindness, who all come to judo to build their confidence.

"But we are starting to run out space for new members and we need to buy new judo mats to expand and to run proper competitions at our club in Cornwall."

She added: "We would also like to take a team to the Austrian Cup at the end of February. The cost for each person is around £190 for four days and the more money we raise here, the more costs will be reduced for parents. This means we can take more people to this prestigious competition."
