St. Austell Brewery has announced that thirty new jobs are being advertised for new apprentices to start their career with them.

These positions are in their pubs and restaurants across Cornwall as future pub chefs and in key front of house roles, with the company’s tenant partners also offering placement opportunities.

Recruitment for these posts will be through an open day at the County Arms, Truro on Saturday February 21 from 10am until 3pm, through St Austell Brewery’s Careers website and through applications to Truro and Penwith College Business Apprenticeship Recruitment team by contacting them on 01872 267531.

The apprenticeship training programme will start just before Easter. The open day will provide the perfect opportunity for potential candidates to gain an understanding of the roles and training offered and to meet with representatives from both the College and St. Austell Brewery.

The 30 new apprenticeships are part of an ongoing and growing partnership between St. Austell Brewery and Truro and Penwith College to provide careers within the hospitality sector, accompanied by high quality relevant training that will enable people to launch their careers. These 30 apprentices are in addition to 10 who started with Truro and Penwith College and St. Austell Brewery last year, making St. Austell Brewery one of the most important companies offering apprenticeship opportunities in Cornwall.

Truro and Penwith College Business is developing the apprenticeship programmes so that new apprentices will benefit from bespoke, tailored training. This will ensure that the new delivery meets the business’ needs and contributes to the vision for its future success, as well as developing valuable young talent across the organisation.

Martin Tucker, director of Truro and Penwith College said: “This is a great opportunity for young people in Cornwall to learn the hospitality trade with one of Cornwall’s growing businesses.  It is a marvellous example of the College working in partnership with St. Austell Brewery providing great opportunities for young people in the county. We already have had 100 new apprenticeships in hospitality this year employed by local businesses and training with the College. The College’s investment plans to base catering and business conference facilities in the new stadium would certainly encourage further economic activity in these areas which will benefit everyone in the community.”

St. Austell Brewery currently employs around 1000 people over 25 managed hotels, pubs and inns across Cornwall and Devon, as well as offering valuable employment to thousands more people across the south west through 145 tenanted pubs.

Adam Luck, St Austell Brewery estate director, said: “More than any other industry, pubs are people businesses and the best pubs owe their success to the quality, skills and attitudes of the people who work in them. We are delighted to be working with Truro and Penwith and hope this latest scheme will encourage more young people to choose to develop their careers in the hospitality sector.”

Truro and Penwith College Business are also supporting St Austell Brewery with a management programme tailored to invest in and develop existing team leaders and supervisors within the business to become more effective at managing people and operations.
