Orlando Kimber is to step down as a candidate for North Cornwall in the forthcoming general election to care for his wife.
Orlando, who was representing Mebyon Kernow - the Party for Cornwall, has said his wife is bedridden after suffering "a relapse from a medicine-induced illness".
“My wife is ill and needs close attention whilst she is in recovery," said Mr Kimber.
“During this time it isn't possible to either campaign or indeed represent North Cornwall if I were elected. It’s sad to have to step down and I’m grateful for the encouragement and kind words of so many people.”
Paul Ellis, Chair of the North Cornwall branch of The Party for Cornwall, said “We are so disappointed to lose an outstanding candidate. Orlando has proven himself as an able campaigner and spokesman, with a strong grasp of the issues that are central to Cornwall’s well-being.”
Dick Cole, Party Leader of Mebyon Kernow said “I am also disappointed that Orlando is unable to continue as our candidate and, most importantly, we wish Boo a rapid recovery. I hope that Orlando will still be able to find some time to make an effective contribution in this critically important election.
