The company that controversially took over 'hotel' services at the Royal Cornwall Hospital has been told to clean up its act by West Cornwall's MP.

West Cornwall MP, Andrew George, has called on the executives of Mitie to honour its employer obligations to its staff and pay up, or surrender their contract.

Mr George said he raised concerns on behalf of his constituents but instead of answering these concerns, "Mitie executives were only interested in getting the names of the employees who had raised the matters".

Mr George said he refused to break their confidences and has expressed concern that the company might "intimidate workers into silence".

Mr George said: “This situation has gone on long enough. I’ve asked for a briefing but it hasn’t been forthcoming. It’s time this company met its obligations to their employees. The situation is completely unacceptable”.

A spokesman for Mitie said: "We acknowledge the concerns that he has raised and want to point out that we have offered to meet him on a number of occasions but he hasn’t been available.

"As we said to the BBC, all our staff have been paid. We respond promptly to any pay queries that are raised and usually resolve them within 48 hours. We’re working closely with our employees to improve any future payroll issues.

The company added that it has a way for staff to raise concerns, including a confidential telephone line.
