Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust has declared a "black alert" as it struggles to cope with demand on hospital services.

The Trust has been overwhelmed over the Easter and the alert, the highest level,  has been called as it is struggling to discharge patients.

The problem follows a 'Black Alert' in February when bosses at the Royal Cornwall Hospital asked people to collect their loved ones from hospital as soon as they are contacted to say they can leave due to pressures on services.

Bosses are again asking relatives and friends to pick up people who are ready to be discharged to help free up beds.

Hospitals in Cornwall have also aked people to avoid A&E, unless necessary, after an outbreak of Norovirus. One ward has been closed
