Skaters from Cornwall Roller Derby are being joined by their sisters across the Tamar at Plymouth Roller Derby for a charity challenge.

Following on from their successful fundraising efforts last year, 14 roller girls will be raising money for two worthy charities. Last year “Team Jukes” walked 44 coastal miles and raised £3,500 for Cornwall Hospice Care in recognition of the care received by friend and teammate Becky Jukes.

This year the team are hoping to raise a similar amount but are going to split the funds that are raised between Cornwall Hospice Care and Jeremiah’s Journey.

Jeremiah’s Journey is a bereavement charity which helps support children and their families after a loss. After the tragic loss of Simon Knight, from Plymouth City Roller Derby, to a heart attack aged 39, his wife and son Rachel and Indy have benefited from the work of Jeremiah’s Journey.

This year “Team Jukes” and “Team Knight” are walking the ten peaks in the Lake District in a day - a distance of 17 miles with ascents of 2,500m. The following day they will be canoeing Lake Windermere which is a 10.5 mile paddle.
