June has started with the issuing of a severe weather warning for Cornwall, the south west, and beyond with winds gusting up to 70mph on some coasts.

The Met Office has sent out the yellow weather warning, expected to last from 2pm today until 6pm tomorrow, as heavy rain is due to set in, with winds gusting up to 40 or 50mph across the region but higher on the English Channel coast and across the Irish Sea, and large waves also expected.

A Met Office spokesperson said: "Given the unseasonable nature of the winds, the public should be aware of the potential for disruption to transport and outdoor activities. Damage to some trees seems likely."

No flood warnings or alerts have been issued at this time.
