A GREAT-granddad from Truro maybe one of the luckiest men alive after winning prizes on Lotto scratchcards on three consecutive days and then bagging the £13,538,113 million quadruple roll-over jackpot last Wednesday.

Peter Congdon, 67, matched all six numbers to win the jackpot and become an instant multi-millionaire after three different people predicted he would be lucky on the day of the draw. The predictions came after the great grandfather won a small amount of money on National Lottery Scratchcards three days in a row.

Peter said: “As I was collecting my scratchcard winnings on Wednesday I bumped into someone in the shop who said, ‘Make sure you buy a Lotto ticket because if anyone wins that Rollover, it’s going to be you.’ I had two more very similar comments that afternoon and they were right; it was definitely my lucky day.”

Peter checked his results as soon as the draw was over on Wednesday night and recognised a couple of numbers straightaway.

“I thought I might have won £25, then I realised I’d matched six numbers and there was only one jackpot winner so I ran straight down to my daughter’s house and asked her to double check," he said.

“When she agreed with me, I came home and put my ticket in a book in the kitchen and made myself a cup of tea. Needless to say, I didn’t get much sleep that night.”

Peter, a widower, is looking forward to celebrating his win with his family which includes three children, ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild, who all live nearby.

As well as treating his close-knit family, Peter has already been planning how to spend his money and has his eye on a new Land Rover Discovery Sport and is also hoping to take his family on their annual holiday to Butlin’s in Minehead.

“I’ve always wanted a Land Rover so my daughter and I headed straight to the local showroom to book ourselves a test drive," said Peter. "If it goes well, I’ll hopefully buy one for each of us. My other children won’t be left out; I’ll treat them to new cars as well. As for the family holiday, we’ve been going to Butlin’s for 40 years so this year won’t be any different.”

Peter is very active in his local community and as well as being a city councillor, he runs bingo in the community centre three times a week and helps out with family services. He has also helped secure National Lottery funding for the Trelander and St Clements Community Association across a number of projects, including the building of a brand new community hall on the Trelander Estate, worth in total £378,709.

A regular Lotto player, he always uses the same numbers, which are a mixture of birthdays, anniversaries and lucky numbers. The winning numbers on Wednesday were 12, 27, 28, 39, 41 and 48. The winning ticket was bought at the Trelander Post Office and Premier in The Quadrant, Trelander, Truro.
