Truro and Penwith College students Ollie Clark and Jordan Walklett are celebrating breaking the county’s records allowinfg them to compete in the European Trials in Bedford, to qualify for the European Championships.
Ollie, who studies A Levels at Truro College, won the long jump at the County Championships in Par with a 7.45m personal best—a county under-20s record and a new championship record—and won the under-20s 100m, with a county record of 10.8 seconds.
Jordan won the triple jump, equalling the county record of 14.43 that has been held since 1966 and, as he is just 17, with three more years to compete in the under-20 category, more success is expected in the future.
Both train in the Truro College Elite Academy, and although both record holders, never compete against each other in the other’s events. The two also thanked Truro College for the facilities and academy. “We love the Academy,” says Ollie. “It’s a great place to train, and Jamie Willcocks, our coach, has helped us a lot.”
