The ROC 5k run took place last month, raising money to fund ROC’s amazing work supporting individuals with learning disabilities. As well as being one of the main sponsors for the ROC 5k run, Truro and Penwith College supported this fantastic event in more ways than one.

Truro and Penwith College had five staff teams enter, (“The Fab Four”, “Faster than Snails” and “The Apprentice Runners” to name a few), with a further 8 members of staff entered as individuals. On top of that 11 Foundation Studies students completed the run with a member of staff by their side. This totalled 50 staff and students taking part from the College all together.

In addition to race entrants, the College helped towards leading the fun warm-up session on the stage, accompanied by a very enthusiastic ‘Betty Stoggs’. Three of the College’s Higher Education Sport students kindly stepped up to take part: Miles Cook, Debbie Baker and Steve Fenney. Two masseurs, Lindsay Keefe and Julia Hussey, also HE students from the College, were on standby to provide support to runners.

Lora Millward, from Truro College's Health Wellbeing and Sport team, said: "I would like to thank all the volunteers from the College mentioned above, along with our publicity team who put a lot of work in to setting up prior to the race. Then, of course, not forgetting all the other volunteers from ROC and elsewhere who helped to make the event as successful and enjoyable as it was. Hopefully it will continue to grow in popularity as it already has done comparing entrants from this year to last."
