Police have arrested a man and seized a dog in connection an attack which left a Truro resident with serious bite injuries to his head and neck recently.
The 58 year old victim, Peter Fitzgerald from Malabar, was sent to Derriford hospital and required surgery and hundreds of stitches after he was mauled by the pitbull-type animal on the evening of Saturday, June 20, on playing fields near Cornish Crescent, Truro.
He was walking his own pet, Kimbo, and was bitten when he tried to intervene after a fight broke out between the two dogs.
A police spokesperson said: "A 52-year-old man from Truro has been arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control and taken to Newquay police station to be interviewed.
"A dog has been seized by officers from Truro local policing team, in partnership with Cornwall Council. The dog will be held by police pending assessment."
The suspect has also been arrested on suspicion of a separate theft offence.
