Breast cancer survivor, Linda Clarke rallied a mighty field of horse power in support of her fundraising efforts for the Mermaid Centre at Truro, with a 160-strong motorbike run.

Linda was diagnosed and treated for breast cancer in October last year and just four months later in the same determined spirit in which she faced her illness she set about doing something to say thank you to the team at the Mermaid Centre at the Royal Cornwall Hospital for the care and support she received.

A keen motorcyclist, Linda knew members of the British Legion Motor Cycle Club who were quick to take up her request to take part in a fundraising bike run. The event took place on Mother’s Day, setting out from Dameralls at Indian Queens and finishing on Lemon Quay Piazza in Truro where they also held a grand raffle. It attracted bikers from clubs across Cornwall and even some from Devon, who all made donations to the Mermaid Centre to take part.

“It was brilliant,” says Linda. “I never imagined we’d raise so much and can’t wait to have an even bigger anniversary event next year. I’m really grateful to everyone who took part and to all the local businesses who gave such great prizes for the raffle.”

In total the ride raised just over £1,800 for the Mermaid Centre, including a £650 contribution from Santander. Staff at the centre we’re delighted to welcome Linda, her family and some of the bikers who took part when they visited recently to officially present their donation.
