Firefighters used crash rescue equipment as they attempted to tackle a car fire outside Truro College on Saturday morning.
Fiver firefighters were called to the blaze on the A390 at Threemilestone at around 11.15am, and found the vehicle to be well alight on arrival.
A fire service spokesperson said: "Two breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets were used to tackle the fire along with crash rescue equipment used to gain entry to the engine compartment.
"Firefighters made the vehicle safe once the fire had been extinguished."
